SUMMER CHECKLIST
Layered Clothing - It can rain or snow anytime of the year in the high country, so bring thin layers that you can stack to accommodate variable weather. A warm hat, like a beanie, isn't a bad idea either!
Wind/Rain Jacket - An inexpensive poncho works great too! Proper footwear – Tennis shoes, hiking sandals, trainers or hiking boots are necessary with 2 to 3 pairs of wool or synthetic socks. Remember to break your shoes in before heading to the mountains; nothing can ruin a hike faster than blisters! Backpack - Small bag to carry gear, food and water during your hikes since the National Park asks that we not leave food in the vehicle. Please don't bring a cooler with you on your trip. Swimsuit - Only if you hope to swim in one of the beautiful swimming holes! Camera - Remember to include gear like additional lenses, filters and a tripod. Binoculars - Great for seeing birds, climbers and other wildlife! Sun Protection - Sunscreen, lip balm, hat and sunglasses Bug repellent - Mosquitos are active in the Sierra, so bring your choice of repellant if you are sensitive to them. Water Bottle - Reusable Nalgene, bottled water or hydration bladders like a Camelback... Really anything that will hold fluid! Medications - Any prescription or over the counter medication or over the counter medications or vitamins that you take regularly! Think dramamine if your prone to car sickness! Snacks - Your options are limited in the mountains so pack specific regional foods or dietary requirements. Excitement - This is the most essential ingredient! Everything else we can help find in a pinch! |
